Patna University (PU) has reformed the system of reservation in PhD admission. The provision of reservation for Economic Backward Category (EWS) was not kept till Tuesday in PhD admission, but now the option of choosing EWS has also been added to the reservation. Along with this, from January 6 to January 10, a provision has also been given to edit the candidates who have applied without choosing the EWS category under compulsion to opt for EWS. In the news published on Tuesday morning, ‘Amar Ujala’ had told that Patna University has not given reservation in PhD admission bypassing the guidelines of UGC. Vice Chancellor (VC) of Patna University Prof. In response to the questions being raised in this news, Girish Kumar Chowdhary had said that it can be rectified after taking guidelines from the Raj Bhavan, because till now the instructions of the Chancellor before the EWS reservation implemented in 2019 in PhD admissions are applicable. Following the news, student leaders including Patna University Students’ Union (PUSU) president Anand Mohan, former president Ashish Sinha also demanded reforms. Apart from this, the candidates had also threatened to agitate if the EWS reservation was not implemented by improving the process.
Vice Chancellor told- added the option of edit for those who have applied
Vice Chancellor Prof. Girish Kumar Chowdhary told that on Tuesday afternoon Patna University had sought guidelines from the Raj Bhavan in this regard, on which the Chancellor’s consent was received at night. The VC said that the Chancellor has given consent to implement EWS reservation as per the provision in PhD admission also, so now this option has been added in the online application form. He told that the students who have applied from January 6 to 10 due to non-availability of this option, they can also edit if they belong to this category.
Students demanded to mark and punish the troublemakers
Thousands of students, including the leaders of the Patna University Students’ Union, thanked Amar Ujala for the news. The students who applied for PhD admission said that in this way the students were deliberately harassed and an attempt was also made to malign the image of Patna University. Better late than never, the students demanded that the Vice-Chancellor should find and punish the responsible officers who adopted such an attitude regarding the Economically Backward Reservation implemented from 2019. In fact, the reason for this demand was also in the news that Patna University was following the provision implemented from 2019 in the rest of the courses and the rest of the universities are doing the process considering it in PhD admissions as well. Further, if the Chancellor’s opinion was required, it should have been done before calling for the online application.
